How to write the letter T
The capital T is written in two strokes, and the small t in two strokes. The worksheet above is already set to this letter. It shows a model of each letter with green numbered start points and red direction arrows, then rows of dotted copies to trace and empty space to write on your own. Change the letter case, the size or the number of rows in the settings.
Capital T
Draw a straight line down from the top. Then lift your pencil and draw a line across the top, from left to right, crossing the middle of the first line.
Small t
Draw a straight line down from just below the top line to the base line. Then cross it with a short line at the middle line, from left to right.
Teaching tip for T
The small t is shorter than the small l: it only reaches about halfway between the middle line and the top line. Cross it at the middle line, level with the tops of a, n and u. For the capital T, start with the stem, then add the top bar.
The sound of T and words to practice
The letter T usually stands for the sound /t/ as in tiger. Words to practice: tiger, turtle, tree, train, table, tomato. Say each word, listen for the first sound and trace the letter. Try the beginning sounds worksheets to match the sound to pictures, or trace the words themselves with word tracing.
Letters that look alike
The letter T is easy to mix up with Letter Ll and Letter Ff. Practice them on separate days, one at a time, and say the starting point out loud each time before the pencil touches the paper.
